BUNK'GALLERY
Exploring the Historical Significance of Bunk'Art 1
Bunk'Art 1 served as the underground headquarters for Albania’s General Staff during the Cold War. The fortified structure spans five floors and lies deep within the eastern hills near the capital city, adjacent to the mountain range housing Mount Dajti.
Construction occurred covertly, away from local residents’ attention. The surrounding terrain was densely vegetated, making it inconspicuous from both aerial and close-up views. Bunkart-1, now a museum, once housed various military apparatuses during the communist era. Notably, Objects 0774 and 0777 played strategic roles. Object 0774 represented the Reserve Liaison Unit of the General Staff, while Object 0777 was designed as Command Post No. 1 for resistance in large-scale wars or the use of Weapons of Mass Destruction.
The blast-resistant external doors, each weighing 4 tons, consisted of reinforced concrete (Grade C60) with embedded steel elements.
Fundamentally, the materials used were locally sourced.
