Exploring Albania's History at Bunk'Art 2

Bunk'Art 2, situated in the heart of Tirana, brings to life a dark period of Albanian history, revealing the mechanisms of control and punishment that profoundly impacted Albanian society. In this unique museum, visitors are introduced to various historical periods, from the beginnings of the first Albanian state, to the era of communist dictatorship.

- The First Steps in National Security (1912-1913) In the first pavilion, the efforts of the first Albanian government to establish institutions for national security are explored. A journey back in time, showcasing the challenges and determination to build an independent state with protective security mechanisms.

- Communism and Population Control The second pavilion presents the sophisticated surveillance techniques used by the Sigurimi, a secret service tasked with monitoring and controlling the population. Through documents, equipment, and other materials, visitors will learn about the investigative methods of Sigurimi, investigations of the private lives of every citizen to keep every thought and movement under control.

- Punishment of Thought and Censorship In the third pavilion, the fight against freedom of speech and thought is highlighted. Here, visitors learn about how the government controlled the media, imposed censorship, and punished those who dared to express different opinions.

- Camps and Executions of Opponents At the end, a shocking chapter opens on the types of punishments for regime opponents. Here, details are revealed about the suffering camps where individuals spent years in inhumane conditions, and the executions of those considered enemies of the regime.
