BUNK'GALERI
Marking 34 years since the fall of communism in Albania
Today is the 34th anniversary of the fall of communism in Albania, an event that began with the Student Movement of December 8, 1990. This movement marked the start of a new era for the country, where students called for a free and democratic society, leading Albania toward significant transformations.
During the communist period, Albania was heavily bunkerized and isolated from the rest of the world. Under Enver Hoxha’s regime, over 170,000 bunkers were built, creating an atmosphere of fear and insecurity, completely isolating the country and controlling the lives of its citizens.
Bunk'Art, a museum located in one of the bunkers built during the dictatorship, offers a unique opportunity to better understand this dark period in Albania’s history. Open to visitors, Bunk'Art is a must-visit destination, bringing to life the history of the country’s isolation and transformation.
