Albania's New Year Tree of the dictatorship era exposed at Bunk'Art
Across the Christian world is called "Christmas Tree", in Albania it was called "New Year's Tree" during the 45 years of communism. This tree is exposed in Bunk'Art 1. Although many historians think it has a pagan origin, the decorated fir-tree was considered a religious symbol and so the dictator Enver Hoxha had commanded to named it differently. In Bunk'Art1 Albanian citizens, young and old, tourists can see how poor and creative was the New Year's Tree when Albania was isolated from all over the world. Chains of colored paper, cotton as snow-covered, postcards from friends and relatives, were some of the embellishment of Albanians holidays during the communist dictatorship.
